Singularity University in Collaboration with BD Launches First Global Impact Challenge in Singapore

An open call to innovators, entrepreneurs, scientists, and technologists to identify new digital technologies enabling better diagnostics and delivery of healthcare

SINGAPORE March 3, 2017 – Singularity University (SU), a global community with a mission to educate, inspire, and empower leaders to apply exponential technologies to address humanity's grand challenges, is collaborating with the global medical technology company BD (Becton, Dickinson and Company), to launch a Global Impact Challenge (GIC) in Singapore. This challenge is an open call to innovators, entrepreneurs, scientists, and technologists to propose moonshot innovations to improve healthcare, through the identification of new digital technologies enabling better diagnostics and delivery of healthcare.

“Singularity University is very honored to be collaborating with BD, a leader in innovative medical technologies, and thank them for their continued sponsorship and collaboration,” said Regina Njima, Director of the GIC program at Singularity University. “Additional expertise will be provided by our leaders within SingularityU Singapore Chapter, which is organizing the competition from Singapore.”

“BD is excited to build on its existing collaborations with Singularity University to support an important challenge in the most populous part of the world,” said Ellen Strahlman, Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at BD. “The GIC also provides the opportunity to increasingly globalize BD’s innovation efforts.”

The SingularityU Singapore Global Impact Challenge is an open call to all residents and citizens of Asia over the age of 21. Winner(s) will receive a full sponsorship to attend SU’s Global Solutions Program (GSP) in Silicon Valley, where they are provided with SU’s core curriculum on exponential thinking, technologies, and leadership, as well as access to SU’s extensive global network of alumni and participating companies to further develop and commercialize their innovations. Finalists will benefit by having access to a cadre of mentors and coaches from SU and BD to engage with them in the startup phase of their projects.

Winner(s) will be selected on 26 April 2017, by a panel of judges consisting of representatives from SU and BD, and senior representatives from the business and the entrepreneurial communities in Singapore. Finalists will be judged on their expertise and experience, as well as the sustainability, scalability, and potential impact of their proposed solutions.

“I am delighted to work with like-minded partners in BD and Padang & Co to organize this Global Impact Challenge as our first official SingularityU activity in Singapore,” said Charlie Ang, SingularityU Singapore Community Ambassador. “With this and many more initiatives in the future, we hope to inspire Singaporeans to ‘Be Exponential’ and apply exponential technologies to positively impact millions of lives in different domains around the world.”
