A pioneer in instructional technology, Joel programmed the first digital curriculum–TLTG Chemistry–to be adopted as a high-school textbook replacement in 1993. Through 25 years of creating compelling learning experiences, he has worn many hats including learning experience designer, creative director, program director, and entrepreneur. As founder of Viavivo Inc., he led the development of an online semester for an innovative MBA in Entrepreneurship. He is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin.
Joel is also a prolific composer, conductor and performer. In 2015, he was Composer-in-Residence for the Classical Mandolin Society of America. His chamber works have been performed by Wet Ink Ensemble and the International Contemporary Ensemble. He conducts the Austin Mandolin Orchestra and has appeared as a mandolinist with the Austin Symphony Orchestra. He also stays active as a gardener and personal attendant to two precocious border collies.
